Last year, my dreams came true! My boyfriend and I were finally ready to adopt some cats. We adopted a young, black and white cat called Socks, a beautiful, sweet-natured and playful female cat. We also took on Charlie, the cheeky male tabby, who within ten minutes can provide more entertainment and drama than a year’s worth of cinema visits.
My experience with Charlie has encouraged me to write a blog. Although we don’t know his background, it appears that it must have been tough for him. At times, this made living with his bad habits seem impossible. He is responsible for many moments of uncontrollable laughter, but also many moments of heartache and despair. I have to admit, I was not expecting such challenges caused by adopting a cat and on a couple of occasions, I was ready to give up on him and take him back to the rescue centre.
However, through love, understanding and perseverance, we have been rewarded each day with a cat who is increasingly more content with the world and the people around him. At our 1 year milestone together, I can celebrate that we gave him a chance and enjoy watching the lovely cat he is becoming.
